To be honest, I haven’t checked out all of Josh Rouse’s (@bedroomclassics) records, but based on those that I have heard, I’d say that he’s creating some pretty amazing music. I was first exposed to him while a buddy and I were geeking out to old disco string arrangements via videos on YouTube. He played “Come Back” from Rouse’s album 1972, and I was sold.
Though Rouse has released music as a solo artist since 1998, his more recent work reflects his move to Valencia, Spain with his wife and child. I’m not the biggest fan of gringo’s singing pop songs in Spanish or the total bastardization of folk traditions (that kinda shit actually scares me), but he’s actually doing a pretty good job. He Spanish vocals have real authenticity, and being a resident of the Mediterranean with a native wife can only help his cause.
I definitely recommend checking out his album Turista, and there are plenty of cuts off his previous albums Country House, City Mouse and 1972 such as “Italian Dry Ice” and “Love Vibration” that will also satisfy equally. Since he only released Turista last year, there probably won’t be any new jams from Rouse terribly soon, but there is a vast reservoir of material available to keep you occupied for now.
