Portland natives, Joseph, enamored their audience at the Bowery Ballroom last Friday night. Their bewitching harmonies and sophisticated folk sensibilities brought an energetic warmth to their performance which included songs off their 2016 release, I’m Alone, No You’re Not, as well as a selection of beloved favorites from their debut album such as “Tell Me There’s A Garden” and “Wind.”
The trio of sisters got their start doing house shows. Though fresh off touring internationally in support of James Bay, this intimate atmosphere remains ingrained into their set, inviting hundreds listeners into their preverbal living room. Concert-goers were surprised with a new song that swooned and soared with the intricate, multi-part harmonies Joseph fans have come to love. “It’s our first time performing that song,” Allison revealed, “It felt like a risk, but what better place to try.”
Natalie, Allison, and Meegan brought the show to a close with the same rapturous energy as it began with their song “Wind.” The venue met their energy, erupting into song and clapping along. With genuine appreciation for the warm reception, Joseph ended their set with the seemingly insatiable crowd wanting more as they cheered and applauded long after the sisters left the stage.
