Record stores are sacred. They’re where I grew up, where I met some of my best friends, where I learned to become an insufferably pretentious douche bag and where I bonded with my dad. Record Store day is a now worldwide celebration of the greatness of indie record stores, and they do this with incredible limited releases, some in store events, and some free trinkets like that bottle opener I got last year. I really love that bottle opener.

Basically, all you have to do to is show up at one of the many fine stores peppering this city. Seriously, most of them will have all sorts of different in store promotions, including in some places in store performance, like Regina Spektor at Other Music and Yo La Tengo at Generation Records. There are lists all over the internet detailing exactly what limited releases will be available, but here are the ones that I am going to buy [1]:

1. A four-track translucent vinyl edition of Daft Punk’s soundtrack to Tron: Legacy, featuring previously unreleased song “Castor”, in three different color themes
2. A 7″ from Blitzen Trapper, “Maybe Baby” b/w “Soul Singer”
3. A split 7″ between Jenny & Johnny and Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris
4. A U.S.-only 12″ EP from the Gossip frontwoman Beth Ditto
5. Bad Brains’ 1995 LP God of Love, reissued on vinyl and packaged with a 7″ featuring two previously unreleased songs, “Let’s Make Love” and “It’s Agreeable”; a reissue of Bad Brains’ 1980 debut 7″, “Pay to Cum” b/w “Stay Close to Me”
6. A new single from Fleet Foxes, “Helplessness Blues” b/w “Grown Ocean”
7. A 7″ from Fela Kuti and Africa 70, “Monday Morning in Lagos Pt. 1 & 2″, remastered from the original Nigerian release in 1971.
8. A 7″ from Justin Townes Earle, “Move Over Mama” b/w “Racing in the Streets” (Bruce Springsteen cover)
9. Sonic Youth’s Whore‘s Moaning EP, released for the first time in the U.S
10. Ryan Adams and the Cardinals’ Class Mythology EP, released as a double-7″ on yellow and orange vinyl and includes a 7″-7″ mini-poster and sticker.
11. Kill Rock Stars’ self-titled compilation rerelease
12. James Blake’s debut on vinyl, with two bonus tracks
13. New Pornographers 7”, “Moves” / “Drug Deal of the Heart”
