Sitges – Indian Rebound (Free Download)
Good morning sun. Good morning sky. It may still be pretty cold outside, but with the clocks changing next week, I’m ready for an influx of spring indie to get me past these final weeks of a shitty NYC winter. Enter Brooklyn/NYC band Indian Rebound (Ethan Levenson, 16, John Kallen, 19).
After seeing Indian Rebound close out Toro y Moi’s Mercury Lounge gig, I’ve been diving relentlessly into their 4 song EP, released late last year. I look at this EP as a flip of the middle finger to dear mother nature. Your cold breathe can’t do shit to me when I’m listening to this unique blend of garage rock and beach pop.
I’ll be the first to claim my distain for the whole lo-fi beach pop trend of 2010, and am thoroughly relishing the much-needed escape from that shit in 2011. Though the general tones of Indian Rebound can be found in much of the music I dislike so much, it’s put together in a way that comes off in a far more enjoyable way.
Indian Rebound has an upcoming opening gig for Cloud Nothings, so watch out. Goodbye winter, hello Indian Rebound.
