This past Wednesday night, Ha Ha Tonka played a sold out show with the Spring Standards and our friends of the band Lucius (not Lücius!).  It’s been a few months since last seeing Lucius, and even in that short time, they’ve matured immensely.  Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig took the lead as usual, but were joined on stage by an incredible ensemble that included Dan Molad on drums and Pete Lalish on guitar.  Their songs were clean and spot on in every sense.  Their sophomore LP was recently recorded in Los Angeles and is promising to be a groundbreaking release for them.

Later in the evening was Ha Ha Tonka with an energetic performance that ended with both them and Spring Standards on stage.  This southern indie rock band from Missouri has been around since 2001, but changed their name from amsterband to Ha Ha Tonka in 2007.  With their third album under the new moniker, Death of a Decade, released earlier this month, the band had plenty to celebrate.  The band played their new songs but didn’t forget about the longtime fans by giving us some of their classics.  Ha Ha Tonka’s energy on stage was infectious.  They have a subtle but powerful musical style that kept the crowd engaged right up until the end.
