Jake S-M really likes reality TV. You can hear it in this ostensibly unscripted 13-minute epic, split up into six, bite-size chapters that range from gameshow gummy worm to elimination round bitter licorice. “for reality tv” is, essentially, MTV reality programming as narrated by a punch-drunk E. E. Cummings. The Brooklyn-based musical alchemist, who has previously recorded shy-guy singer songwriter music under Jacob Sachs-Mishalanie and remixed tracks by indie sensation Comfy, weaves a bon Dieu tabloid confectionery, as candy floss synths swim across saccharine beats. Teddy Boy mod-ness escalates to Juno nu-disco, while melodramatic bass lines drive season finale getaway cars. “for reality tv”, available to stream above, is on sale via Newlywed Records.
