There seems to be a resurgence of soul music lately, particularly with artists who have been around for a while. Bobby Womack recently released his first album of original material since 1994, and this October, ten years after the 2002 release of his debut album The Headphone Masterpiece, American neo-soul singer Cody ChesnuTT (@iamcodychestnutt) will be releasing his second full-length LP, Landing On A Hundred.
Cody has given us a few sneak peeks of his forthcoming album, including “That’s Still Mama”, a track from the LP that really takes me back to the 70’s, though technically I didn’t even exist then. Cody’s profound, velvety lyrics and vocals, the background singers’ smooth harmonies, dramatic violins, horn section hits, and electric guitar vamps all come together to form a strong rhythmic groove that’s really hard not to get into — we can only hope there’s a lot more where this came from. You can download the song from his SoundCloud page.
Like The Headphone Masterpiece, Landing On A Hundred will be self released, so be sure to follow Cody’s Facebook and Twitter pages to find out more about his upcoming album!
