You know the scene in 90’s scary movies when the badass characters walk in slow motion, shoulder-to-shoulder down the locker-lined high school hallway, and everybody stops what they’re doing and stares because they’re simultaneously terrified and jealous? The shot is usually backed by an edgy, intimidating track to confirm that the cool kids are winning. NYC ambient pop trio, Sandy, make those kinds of tracks with synths that toy with both darkness and light to form a tranquil, fluid landscape. The placid vocals navigate with ease throughout the stacked, elongated rhythms and keyboards, making for a sexy, chill vibe reminiscent of The xx and Poliça. Sandy’s tracks are inundated with crisp, clean melodies and intelligent restraint, and we cannot wait to see what this new band has up their cool kid sleeves next.
