Toronto – Frends (Free Download)
Frends. Know the name, and don’t spell it with an I. They’re a small band from a small town in Ohio, but if you’ve never heard of them, well, you’d be well-advised to familiarize yourself.
Frends is Evan Crowther, Aaron Oswald, Travis Kepschull, Mason Major, and Christian Meese. This is a new quintet with a rich flow and a refined approach to their instrumentals. Two guitars, a synth-driven auxiliary, and a percussion all go into their recipe for success.
Though they’ve been together for the past three years, the band’s popularity has been on a steady rise during 2010. Earlier this year, Blalock’s Indie Rock Playlist, an online source for new indie music, featured Frends in an article, exposing them to a wider range of popularity. They have since played shows throughout the Northeastern United States, and have a very devoted minion of fans.
You can stream a selection of a half dozen tracks on their MySpace, including personal favorite, “Toronto”. This summer, the band shot a video for “Toronto”. Warning: you might not enjoy the video nearly as much if you dislike the Green Bay Packers.
With their first full-length album due out in January 2011, the band’s success will only continue to rise. Two whole months before the album is released for the whole world to hear, though, we have a couple tracks for you to preview, courtesy of the band members themselves.
We’re all Frends here after all, aren’t we?
