The Albums You Need to Know About Every Week

It’s a slow week in the world of new releases, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad one. Milo Greene’s lovely collection of understated harmonic pop is finally available, and Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange, which the whole world seems to be talking about, is being taken off Tumblr and put onto our iPods. The Very Best is back with another record to live up to their name, and Alberta Cross successfully reaches for the bleachers.
FRANK OCEAN – CHANNEL ORANGE
Frank Ocean’s (@frank_ocean) incredible new release, Channel Orange, has been up on Tumblr for a while, so anyone who’s wanted to listen has likely already run through the tracks hundreds of times. Still, that’s no reason to be any less excited to own in the album in real life along with Tumblr life. It’s understated, beautiful, groovy and the best R&B release we’ve heard in a really long time. Seriously, go get this if you don’t have it already.
MILO GREENE – S/T LP
This first effort from California-based pop group Milo Greene (@milogreene) is an exercise in catchy harmonies. With some of the prettiest, pop-infused songs this side of a new Pepper Rabbit release, we’ve been waiting with baited breath to put this record on repeat and never take it off.
THE VERY BEST – MTMTMK
The Swedish born producer and Malwaian singer behind The Very Best (@realtheverybest) are releasing their big sophomore album — a new take on the African tinged pop that made them famous. MTMTMK leans more towards electronic than African music, though the world beat is still very present. It’s the perfect dancing album for mid-summer.
ALBERTA CROSS – SONGS OF PATIENCE

With a studio album almost three years in the making Songs of Patience is an apt title. Alberta Cross (@albertacross) have always been one to take indie rock as high as it can go, and they are aiming no different in this record. It’s anthemic and lovely and we couldn’t be happier it’s here in time for the summer BBQs to come.
