Not many bands return after a year away with a multi-movement single, but we all know that Foxygen isn’t your average band. “America” isn’t as political as its name would imply. Instead, it’s a seemingly messageless mini epic that begins as baroque pop then descends into vampy, piano balladry punctuated with ’30s jazz. It’s like a scene from a very confusing musical, and yet… it’s surprisingly listenable, though not for the faint of heart. Try to make sense of the wonderfully confounding track by listening to the full audio above.
