I must admit, I haven’t been listening to Toronto’s Forest City Lovers for all that long. Though I only stumbled across the band this June via their latest LP, Carriage, it was love at first listen. Kat Burns’ playful vocals and smart lyrics are irresistible. So much so that when it came time to plan The Wild Honey Pie’s one year anniversary party, the band was first on our list. After the show, the band ended up crashing at my apartment, making good use of the limited floor space. The next morning, however, they had magically disappeared. I searched the apartment only to find a note saying, “so our van got towed so we’ve gone to get it. Fun!”
Let me be the one to state that this was entirely my fault. Sorry Kat, Kyle, Claire, and Christian! Anyways, after a trip to the impound, the band found their way back to my apartment, and joined me on the East River walking path for a quick performance of their incredible tracks “Oh The Wolves!” and “Constellation”. Special thanks to Kyle for helping out with the filming!
Special thanks to Melanie Steinway for the amazing art above. For more of her work, click here.
‘Buzzsessions’ is a live session series made by The Wild Honey Pie. With each new episode, we travel with a different band to a different part of New York City (or in this case, Westchester, New York) and record sometimes-intimate/sometimes-wild versions of two or three songs which are given away for free.
