Opening the rainy Wednesday evening at Mercury Lounge was Alessi’s Ark (@allaboardtheark), whose quiet, soulful songwriting and subtle guitar structure warmed the saturated New Yorkers just in from the rain. First Aid Kit (@firstaidkitband) continued to swoon the sold-out crowd, offering tunes from their 2010 album The Big Black and the Blue as well as a few short stories of how the songs originated. The Swedish sister duo’s full, rich harmonies and clean, woodsy folk tones provided a joyous sanctuary for all those attending. Johana and Klara filled their set with bright smiles and beautiful, enriching songs.
