Late last night I was listening to music on my computer in shuffle mode. I stumbled across a band called Beat Radio, that most of you have probably never heard of. They distinctly remind me of the end of sophomore year as well as the summer going into junior year. You know those songs that stick in your mind and remind you of an exact place and time? Well, they’re one of those bands. After going to their website for the first time in at last six months (they usually release random singles), I discovered that they had recently released a full length album, available to download for free.
It’s a solid album. They are definitely a band that some people may not like (initially at least), yet I suggest that everyone give them a listen. The feelings and emotion in their songs are really hard to match. Yes, some of the lyrics are a bit too “mushy” at times, but overall, they work very well. Here are a few songs by them that will give you the gist of what their style is. Also, they’re from NY, so I got to represent.

I’ve been meaning to write about this next band for a while now. WHY? released an album on September 22, 2009, and has completely blown me away. I love their lyrics, and the flow of each and EVERY song. His voice, just as the previous artist, is a little “different,” but it’s nothing the average listener can’t get used to. I LOVE this band. The most recent album is called Eskimo Snow and I’m having trouble suggesting just a single track to listen to. My favorites include This Blackest Purse, January Twenty Something, These Hands, Even The Good Wood Gone, and nearly every other track.
Not only is this band talented in playing indie rock music, but they also have created a unique “hip-pop” sound in which they transcend the indie sound. They actually mix an indie sound with hip-hop. It’s a really cool sound! The first track I posted is from an earlier album, and is a good example of their “hip-pop” style, while the others show less of this. I’ll say it now… you’re very, very welcome for telling you about these guys.
