Vanguard Villains VANGUARD VILLAINS

Yet another product of Brooklyn, NY circa early 2009, Vanguard Villains takes a powerful male vocalist who really knows how to work a guitar, with a highly talented drummer, and bassist to make for a group with some killer potential.

Having just released their debut, self-titled album, this trio is looking to just create a buzz rather than go global. However, with songs like the ones featured on the CD and a little refining, of course, this little band may find itself hitting the big time one day.

I Could Save the Day is a beautiful, mellow song that acts as the ideal lead-in to a grungy, alternative rock album. It kicks things off by showing off Neil Matharoo’s rocker vocals and solid guitar playing, drawing the listener in with a promise for something good to come.

Showing off their diversity, their song Music for Vampires threw me for a loop at first. A much-appreciated one, that is. Matharoo’s vocals carry a tinge of grunge, but still managed to sound put together. Oh, and the guitar solo at the end? Impressive. Definitely impressive. This entire track is reminiscent of the days of Nirvana and other classic rockers, something many musicians would kill to be compared to.

Vanguard Villains clearly have the rocker attitude down pat. It’ll be interesting to see where they end up since they’re still such a young band. Check out their MySpace here to hear more of their tracks.  You can buy the album on Amazing by clicking here.  We’ll be posting MP3s from these dudes in the near future!
