TAKING BACK SUNDAY

In a year full of amazing new indie artists, it was easy to overlook some of my favorite bands from years past. One such band is Taking Back Sunday, who released their fourth studio album, New Again, back on June 1. I’m not going to lie, I haven’t been as big of a fan since the release of their first two albums, both of which were my high school anthems. Songs like “Cute Without The ‘E’ (Cut From The Team)” and “You’re So Last Summer” from Tell All Your Friends, and “Number Five With A Bullet” and “…Slowdance On The Inside” from Where You Want To Be will forever be ingrained in my head from the countless hours I spent blasting them on max volume in my room.

The band’s third album, Louder Now, was a HUGE disappointment for me. The songs lacked the spunk of previous material, and I decided that I was all but done with the emo rock band (are they emo?). That was until New Again came to the rescue, and somewhat made up for the past album. It’s filled with a variety of songs that remind me a bit of their old stuff, but is definitely an introduction to a new style of music from them. Songs like “Where My Mouth Is” and “Everything Must Go” are my favorites, and worth a full listen. Here’s a list of my favorite tracks from each album.

Tell All Your Friends (2002) – “Cute Without The ‘E’ (Cut From The Team)”, “Great Romances Of The 20th Century”, “There’s No ‘I’ In Team”, “You Know How I Do”, “You’re So Last Summer”

Where You Want To Be (2004) – “Bonus Mosh Part II”, “A Decade Under The Influence”, “Number Five With A Bullet”, “…Slowdance On The Inside”, “This Photograph Is Proof”

Louder Now (2006) – “What’s It Feel Like To Be A Ghost”, “MakeDamnSure”, “Liar (It Takes One To Know One)”, “My Blue Heaven”

New Again (2009) – “Carpathia”, “Everything Must Go”, “Catholic Knees”, “Where My Mouth Is”, “Sink Into Me, Swing”
