First off, just wanna thank Obsession Collection Music (click here) for taking this amazing photo above. Sick right? Anyways, take your traditional psychedelic 60s rock, shove it through a blender and just completely rip it apart, kicking it while its down and crying; then take it to the carnival. Now you’re starting to understand what Drink up Buttercup does with their music. This Philadelphia-based quartet does not hold back. From banging the hell out of a trashcan with maracas to guitarist Jim Harvey belting out his own childhood rhymes with a sinister twist, Drink Up Buttercup is something I’ve only been able to describe as the Beatles’ music on heroin.
With Jim Harvey’s operatic vocals and Ben Money crying out the lyrics while mastering his duct-taped bass, Drink Up Buttercup has finally left Philadelphia with their debut album Born And Thrown On A Hook to tour the east coast, and keep an eye out on these tour dates! Playing with Maps and Atlases and Jukebox the Ghost, Drink Up Buttercup’s recordings do not compare to their live energy.
Half of their shows I’ve seen had at least one instrument break, once ending in the band coming into the middle of the crowd to play an acoustic Gods and Gentlemen, with the other half of their shows having the band invite everyone on stage and handing out percussion instruments for an all out scream-along to Sosey and Dosey. These shows are not something to be missed.
