I’ve been listening to a lot of Nirvana ever since my trip to Seattle (their hometown). It was cool being there, just imagining what it would have been like in the early 90s while Kurt Cobain and crew were on the rise.
Anyways, the reason I mention them is because though I rarely listen to grunge anymore, I still have an ear for songs that remind of me it. I now introduce Conil. His MySpace classifies his music as folk rock and acoustic, but I think they’re dead wrong. As weird as this next combination sounds, just go with it for a second. Part Nirvana, part Coldplay.
While the songs in Strange Part of the Country (debut album from Conil) are much mellower than anything from Nirvana, his vocal style (raspy and unrefined) reminds me a bit of Cobain. No one with ever compare to Cobain as he was a lyrical genius and pioneer of an entire musical genre, but take a listen to Conil with an open mind. Enjoy!
