Long Island, New York is famous for producing one quality rock band after another (Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, Glassjaw, Nightmare of You, and Straylight Run just to name a few). One of the lesser known bands (to many) is Bayside of Bayside, Queens (relocated to Long Island). Their combination of emotionally-fueled lyrics and power chords make listening to their albums a blissful experience.

Like any other band, their time together has been filled with ups and downs, yet this group of guys had to endure something that no one should ever have to. After a show in Boulder, Colorado (my college town) during the winter of 2005, the band’s van hit a patch of ice, and flipped. During the accident, drummer John Holohan was thrown through the windshield. Sadly, he did not survive the accident. Sorry to bring the mood down, I think it’s something worth knowing.
