Love is a gigantic topic, especially when trying to address all its complexities on a single album. That’s why Toronto-based Art Imperial decided: Why not do it in a trilogy? The first piece, Surf Suburban EP, had the surf-rock, joyous-love feel while the second, CULT OF LOVE, was a more brooding R&B induced series. Art Imperial is finishing off this album trilogy (aptly named the Cycles of Love) with the newest album, Crush, which explores the tensions and desires of falling in love through an airy dream-pop sound.
The opening track “Don’t You Wanna Go Out?” is a perfect example of this tension, shown through melodic tenor vocals, softly clashing percussion and heavily reverbed guitar. Moving slowly and softly, the track and album as a whole perfectly capture the fragile state of falling in love. You can check out the track above and stream the whole album here.
