With their debut full-length release, Disappear, only seven days away, Brooklyn-based band FALCON is giving us a glimpse into their intricate inner workings.  That is, they’re huge Star Wars geeks and played with tons of action figures when they were kids in the 1950s.

In all seriousness, however, there is a far deeper meaning to it.  When childhood friends Neil Rosen (vox, guitar) and Shannon Ferguson (guitar) first got together back in 2004, they decided “to bring the songs of their fellow junior high school classmate, Jared Falcon, to life. The catch was that Jared had ceased writing songs at age 13 following his institutionalization. Consequently, the only material that Rosen and Ferguson had to work with were dusty cassette tapes left in a storage locker in 1988. The band persevered and with the help of bassist Christian Bongers and drummer Jason Molina, they have recorded 15 of Jared’s songs to date — including the highly lauded Falcon EP released in 2008.”

As for the music video, director Daedalus Howell describes, “We knew that it was likely that we would revisit the notion of found footage but wanted something that represented some of the darker tones in the song as well underscore a sense of sentimentality. After riffing on some notions with Shannon, we agreed it would be an interesting aesthetic challenge to create a new narrative arc from existing material and recombine it such that it comments and critiques the source — in this case, Kenner’s Star Wars toy commercials.”

Disappear, which was produced and mixed by guitarist Shannon Gerguson with the help of famed producer Dave Fridmann (MGMT, Tame Impala, The Flaming Lips, Sparklehorse, Thursday, Elf Power), hits shelves on May 17th.
