Terminal 5 had an indie music lover’s ideal lineup last Thursday night. Three of the most powerful acts of 2010 all got on the same stage to share their music for the packed crowd. Opening first was husband-wife duo, and TWHP favorites, Tennis. Their ‘60s dream-pop sound echoed through the venue as they played a half-hour of songs from their first LP, which will be released in January 2011. The crowd sang along to the summer hit, “Marathon”, while dancing during the entire set.

School of Seven Bells, second on the bill, has had quite an eventful year. After releasing their TWHP-approved album, Disconnect From Desire, Claudia Deheza, one of the band’s lead singers, decided to leave the group. With guitarist Ben Curtis and Alejandra Deheza now on vocals though, the band hasn’t seemed to miss a beat. Their performance of “Babelonia” and “Windstorm” was the highlight of their short set (SVIIB played for only 25 minutes).

The Walkmen, entering the stage to massive applause, went right into performing songs from their 2010 album, Lisbon. Hamilton Leithauser, the band’s lead singer, delivered one of the most stirring, passionate vocal performances that I’ve ever been fortunate enough to witness. The intensity with which tracks like “Angela Surf City” and “Woe Is Me” were performed were worth the price of admission alone. The band also brought out trumpets and horns to perform certain songs, most notably their first single from Lisbon, “Stranded”.
During the course of their set, The Walkmen spanned their entire discography, playing hits from their decade long existence as a band that included “We’ve Been Had” from their debut album in 2002. The crowd at Terminal 5 enjoyed the set so much, they joked with members about not letting them leave the stage. While they unfortunately had to eventually, their set and the show as a whole was quite memorable and very well done.
