After Richmond-based Spacemonster released their EP, Gills, this January, I took some time to get a real feel for it. It’s spectacularly dirty lo-fi pop, not something that always appeals to me. The short EP is clearly a bedroom recording; it’s raw to the core, and yet, it completely works. From the glorious album art to the wacky moniker, I’ve got a lot of respect for what this dude is doing.
Gills is incredibly consistent, so if you like one track, you’ll like them all. Make sure to check out “We Are Too” and “Pines”.
