DEER TICK ON TOUR

During my time in London, I learned to love indie folk.  Yes, I liked it before, with artists such as Andrew Bird in my music library.  It’s almost a cop out to say you like folk just because you like Andrew Bird though!  I still remember my first week interning at MTV UK, and thinking to myself, “damn these people like different music than us”. Well, turns out, just because the Brits like different music than the student population at the University of Colorado (where favorites included Mickey Avalon, 3Oh!3, and Pretty Lights), doesn’t mean Americans can’t/don’t appreciate good folk music.

While we’re not churning out talents like Noah and the Whale and Mumford & Sons, we have Deer Tick to thank for putting us on the indie folk/bluegrass map.  Thanks to this talented group, I can close my eyes, and act like I’m back at my flat in Russell Square.  These guys are some of my favourite (spell check, go away!) acts at the moment, and though I say that quite a bit, it’s the honest truth.  Need some added motivation to see them?  Try opening acts Dawes, Wye Oak, and Dead Confederates on for size.
