I saw Darwin Deez live for the first time this week at London music store, Rough Trade, after listening to him non-stop for about two weeks. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. Darwin’s songs intermixed with lively self-choreographed dances are just as entertaining as they seem on YouTube.

Darwin is currently touring the United Kingdom and is passing through Germany, Japan, Australia and France, with no planned dates for the United States.  He admitted, while signing my EP, to not being as popular in the land of the free, which is surprising for a band who’s songs are so upbeat they make you want to take the stairs instead of the elevator. The EP in question features songs Up in the Clouds and Hey Mom.

Hey Mom’s lyrics ring true in their depiction of the typical kid to mom/dad phone conversation. The song is laden with the same intoxicating guitar beats that render all his other songs genius with a rather unexpected drum solo in the middle. While it does not seem as polished as any of his album tracks it’s a good Deez to be had and heard.
