WHITE RABBITS

Shuffle Through The Wild Honey Pie

I’m not sure why it’s the case, but London concert-goers seems to be a bit less enthusiastic than their American counterparts. You can argue about it all you want, but there is no denying the superior intensity of a New York crowd, or even what you find at a place like the Fox Theatre in Boulder, Colorado.

Wednesday night, all of my preconceived notions about London gigs were completely transformed, however. I went to see White Rabbits, a six-piece band from Columbia, Missouri. Though I had previously heard they were a great live band, but I had no idea what was in store. Three drummers at once! Two lead singers! Pounding jungle beats! Their lively performance was an absolute gift to my music-loving soul. My ears felt a bit like they were bleeding by the end of the show, but it was a completely worthwhile experience.

This is a band that anyone with a passion for quality entertainment must see live. I have never before seen the level of showmanship in such an intimate setting, an experience that instantly made me drop any previous doubts about them, and jump right on the White Rabbits bandwagon. The gig was held at the Monto River Rats Theatre in London, which is as snug a venue as you can find anywhere. Audience and band are nearly on top of each other, a factor that played nicely into the high-octane theatrics of the band.

The band, in constant motion from instrument to instrument, provided the crowd with ample reason to cheer. Each member of the band seemed to play guitar and drums, creating the ability to turn any song into an epic euphoria of indie punk rock music.

I can’t stress enough how much any person that appreciates the craft of the live performance should see the White Rabbits. The quality of sound matched that of a studio recording, which is more and more rare these days.
