Divisions – Glass Ghost Divisions – Glass Ghost

My first thought when I walked into Glasslands Gallery in Brooklyn was why are there clouds surrounding the stage?  The opening act, Caveman, won me over with their first song, December 28th. The boys harmonized well, and while their set wasn’t too energetic, it was certainly not boring. They had a very whimsical sound, so the clouds were the perfect décor in the end.

The headliners, Glass Ghost, took a little bit longer to reel me in due to their lack of stage presence. What was originally a duo consisting of Eliot Krimsky (vocals and synth) and Mike Johnson (drums/percussion) is now a trio. Their new addition, Dave Sheinkopf, was who really got my attention. Krimsky sang a majority of the songs (think Tom Yorke minus the legato), but I fell in love with Sheinkopf’s vocals immediately.

Similar to Adam Levine, Sheinkopf’s voice is smooth and has quite a range. My only complaint is that Glass Ghost needs to work on their presence. Their instrumental and vocal performances are already dead on, and the lyrics are well done, especially songs like Mechanical Life and Like a Diamond.
