Charlie Sztyk is a modern folk gem. Over a number of years, he has quietly compiled a collection of heartfelt tales set to gently plucked acoustic guitar. Like many of our recent folk favorites, there is something a bit different about him – a mesmerizing quality about them that shine through on first listen. “Wed,” his latest single, really catches your ears from the start. Smattering drums echo the proclamation of worry that Sztyk belts through the powerful chorus and really invigorate the song as a whole. While lyrically grappling with life, religion, and losing a loved one, “Wed” sonically finds a polished and full form sound with the help of Side Saddle frontman Ian McGuinness. Sztyk will be recording and releasing a two part album called The Arc thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign. Let many repetitions of “Wed” fill your ears until then.
