It’s not every day that a Contemporary Christian band from Oklahoma City plays to a crowd of over 4,000 Brazilians. It’s also not every day that a group of 4,000 Brazilians worship their God to words penned in English and translated (via video screens) into Portuguese. Nevertheless, the Charlie Hall Band took the stage at the Credicard Hall in Sao Paulo, Brazil on September 4th.

With a setlist of songs spanning the life-span of the band, the Charlie Hall Band was greeted by the crowd with intensity and excitement as the band led the crowd in a mass singing of the common Christmas tune ‘O Come Let Us Adore Him’. Though Sao Paulo’s native language is Portuguese, Charlie Hall sang the words in English and the crowd responded just as if they had been singing in English their entire lives.

The band also brought new, unreleased songs to the table like “Rising (Song of Ascent)” and “King of Heaven”, which sounded as if they had been played for years. New songs became instant classics, and classic songs were rediscovered and played with the delicacy as if they were brand new.

Sounding better than they ever have before, everything seemed to come together perfectly. Driving bass lines and percussion made sure that the crowd never stopped dancing, accompanied by a plethora of electronic sounds and melodies by the keyboardist which truly set the atmosphere of the sound of the band, all attributed to making a very pleasant live music experience. And as if that wasn’t enough, catchy and intense guitar solos, as well as driving rhythm guitar added into the mix created the perfect bed for the lyrics and melodies of Charlie Hall to lie down in and create a comforting, soothing sound – even though it was rock and roll.

Passion veterans, the Charlie Hall Band, landed in Sao Paulo, Brazil with the intention of delivering a message of hope and peace through music – and despite a language barrier, the band delivered with phenomenal success.

I was there! We are still in awe of all that God has done through the whole Passion team that weekend! A friend of mine had never heard or seen the Charlie Hall Band and just loved it. The new songs are really cool and have great lyrics! (only one thing: Charlie Hall took the stage on Saturday, Sep 4th). Cool article!
    God bless you all!
