Who’s In Control – British Sea Power (Free Download / Buy)
It’s hard to believe that British Sea Power (@bspofficial) could be labeled as veterans of the music industry. Considering they’ve been a band for more than a decade, though, and have a handful of albums under their belt, it’s certainly true. This British band has gained a huge amount of popularity over time, swelling from a quartet to a sextet in the process to play their post-punk rock anthems.
Throughout the years, British Sea Power has been known for their random and unique live shows complete with stuffed animal stage decor, a plethora of injurious stage dives, and the occasional dancing bear. Their willingness to play in unexpected places like the Arctic Circle and the Great Wall of China has given them the right amount of exposure to gain a strong, loyal fan base that steadily grows with every performance (both in random and conventional venues).
British Sea Power fans had a great start to 2011 with the release of the band’s fourth album, Valhalla Dancehall. Like any other group that’s been writing and playing together for as long as a fifth grader has been alive, the style has evolved since their inception. This new release represents a fine-tuning of the stadium rock sound that the band originally developed. New and veteran fans alike may then wonder if the refinement of Valhalla Dancehall will mean a toned down BSP live experience. The only way to find that out is to see them on their upcoming American tour. British Sea Power will set sail (one cheesy nautical reference is necessary) for America in March with their first stop on the East Coast at Maxwell’s in Hoboken on March 21.
