Hailing from my hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana, Brass Bed (@brassbed) has quickly become a staple in the local music scene. Their sound is fresh and upbeat, with catchy choruses, classic rock influences and even a little psychedelia to mix things up.
They’ve released two LPs via Park The Van Records. 2008′s Midnight Matinee flows from a folk sound and classic country inspired guitar work to an easygoing rock vibe with a punk edge. Their more recent, release, 2010′s Melt White, keeps a fun and unique tone overall but features an evolved sound with higher production value and an evident maturity. Both albums showcase an incredible amount of instrumental strength and remain cohesive throughout. Given that they’re a modern take on The Beach Boys, it’s difficult to not feel cheerful when listening to their music — even during the softer tracks.
More recently, the guys have released a six-track split, The Color Sessions EP, with Lafayette’s Cajun-rock band, Feufollet, which will be available for download in the near future. At the end of this month, they’ll be heading to Jim Eno’s (of Spoon) Public Hi-Fi Studio to cut a new record with Danny Reisch, who recorded Melt White. They’re set to tour the Midwest in the fall, and will be performing at CMJ this October.
