It just seems rational right?  Arizona passes a law you don’t like, or aren’t supposed to like, so you as an artist should boycott the entire state to voice your opinion.  Well, I don’t agree with that statement in the least.  Grit your teeth and write a hateful comment if you must, but I’m an advocate for individual states’ rights and their ability to pass their own laws and enforce them.  That being said, the new bill, SB 1070, which enabled law enforcement officials to “identify, prosecute, and deport illegal immigrants” is a bit drastic and leaves room for social profiling.

This whole shenanigans could have easily been avoided if our president had simply passed a law that allowed the government to install computer chips in all of us (preferably under the scalp where it’d be less noticeable).  This appropriate measure, however, has not been taken, and we are forced to boycott the entire state of Arizona as Representative/genius Raúl M. Grijalva has suggested (by calling for a “conventional boycott of his state“).

So what the fuck does this have to do with music?  Well —-> many musicians have been outspoken in their disapproval of the bill, which I like to personify as Bill from School House Rock.  Mr. SB 1070, don’t be sad!  There’s plenty of hard working musicians that still love your state even if they think you’re a bit shit.  Let’s create a virtual death match between the two parties (support Arizona despite Bill artists aka Viva Arizona-ists vs. the “let’s make the whole state suffer because of Bill” artists aka Sound Strikers).

Team Viva Arizona (add to this list on comments)

1.  Lady Gaga (zing)
2.  KISS
3.  Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
4.  Stone Temple Pilots
5.  Jimmy Eat World (Bleed America!)
6.  Deerhoof
7.  Calexico
8.  Sir Elton John

Team Sound Striker (see video below which depicts learning how to take a shit with other’s approval and this flawless Wikipedia entry about the evil Stryker)

1.  Rage Against The Machine
2.  DJ Spooky
3.  El Trompo
4.  Jenny and Johnny
5.  KMGT (no typo there)
6.  Nine Inch Nails
7.  Sabertooth Tiger
8.  Kanye West
9.  Yeasayer
10.  Smokus Pocus
11. The Jesus Chainsaw Massacre
12. Maroon 5

There’s obviously a ton more artists on each list, so help us out and comment below with some more for us to add.  Part of me really wants to see DJ Spooky get his way, but I am too big of a Gaga fan to show any disapproval of her ways.  Just like so many other things (car pollution, carnivorianism, peeing in the pool, MGMT, etc.), the issue of SB 1070 (aka Mr. Bill, School House Rock) is something I choose to disapprove yet support at the same time.  I don’t think the people of Arizona should suffer the fate of missing The Jesus Chainsaw MassacreSmokus Pocus, Hall & Oats, and Los Lobos live in concert.  The law is rough, and maybe musicians can actually have an lasting effect on the entire issue.  It’s my belief, however, that it’d be better if they actually gave the people of Arizona someone/something to rally around.  But then again, it’s usually better to avoid a situation entirely instead of becoming more active in its solution.
