With the my selection for the 9th best album of 2009, I have a chosen an American band that released their debut album on my birthday (August 25th). From the copper state (Arizona), this dynamic trio was first created by former frontman of The Format, Nate Ruess. Think you know who it is yet?

My selection for the 9th best album of 2009 is Aim and Ignite by fun. The album represents everything good about indie pop music right now. Unlike his work with The Format, Ruess seems much more apt in fully devoting songs to his quirky style. The music in Aim and Ignite is incredibly, well, fun.
Though Ruess’ voice is showcased throughout the record, his vocals really shine in the songs “Be Calm” and “Benson Hedges”. In other songs, impressive instrumentals are the main selling point. “I Wanna Be The One” is a theatrical pop song that conveys a cheerful and loving message. It’s really a brilliant song.
What I appreciate most about fun. is that they dare to be unconventional. Aim and Ignite is a high energy adventure that never ceases to impress. As usual, here are some tracks to check out. I hope you like this band as much as I do.
