So we finally made it! Here is the #1 album (in my opinion) of 2009! This record is a remarkable example of what happens when you get three creative people in a room, and let them work their magic. This particular team of artists is quite uncommon. Two of them are from Sweden, while the final member is from the United States. These same two members previously produced hits for Madonna, Kylie Manogue, and Britney Spears. Any idea who I’m talking about?

Miike Snow is an indie electro pop band that pumps out thrilling tunes that tell stories and bleed emotion. Each song on this album is better than the next, and all are very different. There is a level of diversity in this album that is VERY rare in the music industry these days.

People stick with exactly what they’re known for, but Miike Snow isn’t your average band. Lead singer Andrew Wyatt (the American) offers a tranquil yet gripping voice, while Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg show why they are known in the business for their talents.

I remember first hearing about them when I started at MTV, and knowing I’d like the record just by looking at the sick album art. That jackrabbit is fucking cool! Anyways, I took the album home, and listened to it on repeat for about a week straight. The tracks are infectious and get stuck in your head way too easily. If I didn’t like all the songs so much, it would be really annoying!

It’s really rare for me to claim that an album is all thriller, no filler (all good songs, none that are there to take up space). Miike Snow’s self-titled debut is amazing from start to finish, and worthy of a spot on your mantel. Honestly, buy a copy just to hang on the wall so people can walk by it, and say “what’s that?” Then you can explain the genius that is Miike Snow.

Though every song is good in its own right, there are definitely some stand out tracks. My favorite track has to be “Song for No One”, while songs like “Black and Blue”, “Sans Soleil”, “Cult Logic”, and “Animal” are great as well.
