There are too many music festivals in New York City!  With at least one festival hitting our city each week this past month, I personally take news about a new music festival with a very small grain of salt.  There are, however, some festivals doing it right.  Take Governors Ball for example.  The two-day festival which took place on Randall’s Island two weeks ago, was a diverse showcase of bands, both popular and rising, paired with great food, alcohol, and gorgeous weather.

But not every one can pull that off, especially when using the multi-venue structure employed by New Music Seminar New York Music Festival (what?), Northside Festival, and CMJ.  But the resurgent CBGB is attempting to put on a legitimately great festival taking place across the city and seem to have all the right things in place to make that happen.  The four-day festival involves a film conference with screenings, a spirits festival, plus the obvious music showcases and conference.  Highlights from the artist list include Cloud Nothings, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., FIDLAR, Guided by Voices, Hollis Brown, PS I Love You, and Reggie Watts.  For more info on that festival, head over to the CBGB website here.

Thanks for checking out our suggested New York City indie concerts list!  We won’t list everything that’s going on — just a short collection of great shows happening in our city that you shouldn’t miss this week.  And to make it as easy for you as possible, you can listen to all the bands and sometimes get some free MP3s!
