Edita V – Balkans

Atlanta based Balkans are fast on their way to indie success. Having just completed a US tour with Unknown Mortal Orchestra, they’re about to embark on an international stint with PS I Love You. Though four baby-faced boys may not seem very rock ‘n’ roll, their live set packs as much of a punch as their debut self-titled album.

At first listen, they would appear to be riding on the same sound that most bands are mimicking these days: the ever-dreaded Wavves effect. But, never fear, Balkans manages to take this re-hashed sound and make it their own, with an almost 50’s feel to tunes like “Cave” and a more upbeat vibe to their hit song “Edita V”, recently featured in Spin Magazine, and for good reason.

Between the reverb-drenched, poppy guitar riffs and relentlessly strained vocals, “Edita V” offers what we’re all after: a hip tune with actual musical value. If you’re a more seasoned Balkans fan, don’t let your judgment lie in their harshly recorded mix tapes. These boys have their act a bit more polished with Balkans, just in time for indie music lovers to flock to their summer tour dates!
