AUGUST 11 AT MERCURY LOUNGE

The 4 set lineup at Mercury Lounge on August 11 was terrific from start to finish, provided you got there early enough to enjoy all the sets.

First off, Brooklyn-based band, Beauty Feast, performed an entertaining set filled with organic music and numerous encouragements for touching. At one point, there was random stage diving as Anna and Kelly (the only two females in the band) urged everyone to get right on top of them and touch before a stage diving session ensued. A hilarious Americana song sung by Marty Sulkow capped off the set.

Secondly, Washington-state turned Brooklyn based Oberhofer took the stage to an already full Mercury Lounge. While most everyone had an alcoholic beverage in hand, too-young-to-drink (legally) frontman Brad Oberhofer delivered a terrific array of sounds on vocals. For those who hadn’t heard Oberhofer prior to last night, the band played an electric set, and therefore made a lot of new fans. Head-bobbing and dancing was the norm during their set, especially during their performances of I Could Go and Gold.

Next up was Long Island-based, heavily emerging artist Twin Sister. The quintet playing their penultimate local show of the summer before heading out on a tour that covers most areas of the United States. The beautiful looking and sounding lead singer, Andrea Estella was on point all night. The band plays their music with such passion and such conviction that anyone can be persuaded to give it a chance, even if the music is not ideal to the listener. All Around and Away We Go, one of my favorite tracks of 2010, had to be the clear-cut highlight of the set.

Finally, Canadian-based Memoryhouse took the stage. With a much more subdued, dreamy sound, the set started off battling some acoustic adjustments but grew stronger into an unveiling of a new, more upbeat sound. Denise and Evan are moving their music in a new direction. To the Lighthouse is still a personal favorite, so for me, that was highlight of their set.
