Calling Ariel Pink an odd guy seems like the understatement of the century, but he seems to have found a new facet of his particular brand of strange thanks to Natalie Mering aka Weyes Blood. Part renaissance folk song and part prog exploration, “Tears On Fire” isn’t what one would call “easy listening,” but it sure is interesting. The accompanying clip is worth the 3:24 commitment; it’s wonderfully low budget, with Ariel sporting a very inexpensive set of chain mail, and Mering, resplendent in her magenta makeup, hits her operatic notes while fake flames surround her. Not quite as beautiful as her psychedelic folk odes to ‘70s AM radio on 2016’s Front Row Seat To Earth, but fun nonetheless. Watch the video for “Tears On Fire” above, and find the track on Myths 002, the duo’s recent EP.
Side note: Mering sure knows how to pick her collaborative partners. A lucky audience will get to see her at a (at least as of this moment) one-time performance with Perfume Genius at this weekend’s Marfa Myths.
