Andrew Bird is a living legend. Having seen him live multiple times now, it’s not a stretch to claim that his live act is among the best. He’s got this intricate way of looping his whistles, plucks, vocals, and nearly every other sound imaginable. The result is a rich experience that is only matched by a full orchestra.
Festival sets are short. That’s my only complaint about Andrew Bird’s set up at Newport. I wanted all of his music, an unrealistic thought. I would have settled for a few more songs though, as he played some of my favorites including Tables and Chairs and Plasticities, but skipped Heretics and Fake Palindromes. I’m being unfair Andrew, you’re set was among the best of the weekend.
And just when I thought his set couldn’t get any better, he brought Calexico out for a few songs, which added even more depth and complexity to his songs. Go see Andrew Bird live, go to a music festival, enjoy your summer with an Andrew Bird song.
