Yeasayer Odd Blood YEASAYERS ODD BLOOD

Tonight I’ll be attending the Yeasayer concert in Brooklyn. The gig is going to be an epic celebration of an amazing album (one that has the potential to be a top ten album of 2010), and I CANNOT wait.

Odd Blood is everything that I look for in an album. Though it is just as abstract as their last album, All Hour Cymbals, there is something much more appealing with this offering. Songs such as “Ambling Alp” and ONE offer listeners a (roughly) 4 minute, high-octane joy ride with poppy choruses and psychedelic effects.

The triumphant beats of Odd Blood are constantly brought to the brink of chaos before being pulled into tightly knit pop songs. Each track on the album is chock-full of spright instrumental arrangements and vocal variety. Island grooves and clap-alongs are even present in this gift of an album!

It’s easy to compare Yeasayer to bands such as Passion Pit and Animal Collective, yet they are an entirely different animal. While every song on Odd Blood is satisfying, “Ambling Alp”, “Madder Red”, “ONE”, “Strange Reunions”, and “Grizelda” are the tracks that stood out most to me.

Do yourself a favor and buy this album. Oh, and Odd Blood is getting a 4.5 out of 5 rating.
