Though I pour through hundreds of songs a week, it isn’t every day that I find an artist that gets me truly excited. A few weeks back (I know I’m a bit late on this one), I was surfing the web and stumbled across a band called YAWN. Their crazy antics remind me a bit of both Animal Collective and Vampire Weekend (lazy comparison, I know), yet they are definitely unique.

The thundering drums of Kind of Guy introduce a track that is filled with rattles and harmonies. This is standard from YAWN, whose music causes listeners to do ANYTHING but yawn (they probably called themselves that because their music is the cure for yawning).

Though the only material from YAWN is their five song EP available for free on their website (click here), it’s clear that they have what it takes to make it big. I made the early comparison to Animal Collective, but I think that was unfair of me. These guys, in my opinion, are better.

Their EP is comprised of chaotic grooves that are also pleasantly structured at the same time. My favorites are Toys, Kind of Guy, and Empress. They’re just so f*cking catchy!
