I like pop music. Yeah, I said it. It’s fun to listen to, uncomplicated, and can be played no matter what mood you’re in. (Seamless transition) I was recently told about the band Wakey! Wakey!, and after listening to their album, Almost Everything I Wish I’d Said The Last Time I Saw You…, I’m convinced that indie pop is my favorite musical genre.
I love it when bands shamelessly sing their hearts out, while also experimenting with unconventional song structure. That’s exactly what Wakey! Wakey! does. I’m not saying that they’re my favorite band (not they can’t be someday) or anything. Their music is enjoyable, though, and something I can easily listen to anytime.
Their lyrics are definitely the strongest aspect of their music. Each song is straight from the heart, and clearly for some lady out there (I think). Almost Everything I Wish I’d Said The Last Time I Saw You… offers listeners a VERY solid 30 minutes or so of infectious tunes that are suitable for all ages (I know you were worried). Tracks such as Almost Everything, Got It All Wrong, Take It Like A Man, and War Sweater definitely overshadow the weaker songs on the album.
