Go Do – Jónsi Go Do – Jónsi

Around Us – Jónsi Around Us – Jónsi

If you’ve been on the site recently, you’re probably quite familiar with the fact that I’m obsessed with Jónsi, the lead singer of the band Sigur Rós, and now, lead singer of Jónsi on top of that.  His angelic vocals, and (finally) comprehensible lyrics make Go a must buy album.  Buy!  Yes, that means a lot haha.  From the first electronic hiccup in Go Do to the final beat of Hengilás, there’s a chilling sense of cohesiveness.  Jón Þór Birgisson aka Jónsi is a man with a vision that’s found his gem of an album with this masterpiece.  I’m completely serious when I say that this record is one of my favorites of all time.

No, I’m not just into the catchy pop factor of this album as I’ve listened to it at least 15 times all the way though.  Each time, it seems to gain momentum, leaving me wanting to start from the beginning yet again.  Go starts with the elevated heartbeat-inducing Go Do.  The percussion in this song was partially done using a suitcase.  Yes, you have me right.  They definitely fly Southwest to get that bag on for free.  For those of you that love Sigur Rós and the fact that you don’t understand their lyrics, don’t fret.  There’s plenty of foreign language implemented in this beautiful work.  The song Animal Arithmetic is the most uplifting song of the album, in my opinion, and really comes into it’s own when Jónsi starts singing in Icelandic.

Not a moment passed while listening to this album that I found myself wanting to push the next song button.  That’s quite a feat for me as I have the worst case of music ADD known to man.  That’s why I started this blog actually.  I can’t listen to a song for more than two minutes unless it’s The Beatles, and now, if it’s Jónsi.  I have so much respect for the dudes in this band.  Not only is the album great, but I was lucky enough to see them at Coachella, where I was completely floored by the aura they created.  The crowd was in awe.

If you don’t have the money to buy the entire album, I have to suggest that you pick up Go Do, Animal Arithmetic, Boy Lilikoi, Sinking Friendships, Around Us, and Grow Till Tall.  You know what, do yourself a favor and buy the whole thing please.  It’s that good!  This is the sort of album that leaves you feeling great about life with it’s angelic sounds and heartfelt lyrics.  The strange harmonies in this thing are my favorite part.  It’s unlike any album out there, making it a worthy addition to any music library.  There’s my two cents!  I give this album a very rare 5 out of 5 bees.  I’ve only done this two times before, and I’m considering going back and changing those other albums to 4.5 because this album is that much better.  Enjoy the tracks above, and buy the album by clicking here.
