Happy Man – Heart Shaped Circles Happy Man – Heart Shaped Circles
In the first track off his debut EP titled Evelyn’s Vineyard, solo artist John Douglas of Heart Shaped Circles asks us, “do you think I want to get high?” After listening to Evelyn, you will certainly be answering with, “Yes. Definitely,” just as I did. The track transports you to a smoky concert hall where you’ll feel right at home surrounded by British indie musicians that just want to get high.
Trying to get his start in the music industry in the United Kingdom, Douglas’ thick British accent, simple guitar melodies and folk pop sound are infectious. He makes you feel like you’re floating through outer space in The Vineyard, an instrumental track, and the echoing voices in the background leave you searching for the subliminal messages.
Happy Man, my favorite track, starts off with a poppy drumbeat and demands listeners to check themselves: “You do as you’re told, But when you grow old, Will you die a happy man? Or will you be on acid?” He makes a valid point.
From acid trips to soul-wrenching fear and from feel-good shoegaze to solemn, eerie melodies, Heart Shaped Circles has a truly unique sound, but one that I predict will get noticed here in the land of the free. Douglas is currently working on an album that should be completed by this summer. Unsigned at this point, he is looking for a label and all the support he can get and is open to having people perform with him.
