Now I don’t usually do this, but sometimes an album comes along that I didn’t know about when it was first released that I just can’t NOT review. That’s exactly the case for the album Fate by Philadelphia band, Dr. Dog. These guys are so fucking good it’s ridiculous!
Anyways, my friend Annie yet again came through in the clutch and made a five-star music suggestion by telling me about Dr. Dog. They sounds like a love child of 60s Brit Rock, Bob Dylan, and whatever’s going on in the indie music scene right now (threesome!). I can’t say enough about their harmonies which come as close to perfection as it gets. Their clever instrumentals are nearly lethal, and could literally kill you if you’re driving (you’ll feel the compulsive need to dance wildly).
Fate is the sort of album you don’t come across every day. It reminds me of so many things, yet is so unique. Again, a lethal combo. Songs like “The Old Days”, “The Breeze”, and “The Rabbit, The Bat, and the Reindeer” offer instant gratification, and are the perfect cure to a bad day. I dare you not to smile when you listen to these songs. Impossible! They’re so incredibly uplifting.
The entire album is a hit. Something you can pop on, and listen to all the way through on repeat for hours. I may seem excessive, but once you listen to it, you’ll understand. Fate is filled with songs for every mood. It’s chill, fun, optimistic, and wild all at once.
These dudes are so talented, and were rewarded for their success recently with a solid record deal. Their next album (Shame, Shame) is being this April, but in the meantime, listen to Fate. You now have a new favorite band. Check out the tracks below then download the album in iTunes. If you’re not in the buying mood, you can listen to some of their tunes on their MySpace page. Enjoy!
