Freelance Whales are not only revered for the amazing songs found on their debut album Weathervanes, but also the spectacular videos that have accompanied such hits as “Hannah” and “Generator ^ Second Floor.” Staying true to form, their new song “Enzymes” is represented by an incredibly conceptual and visually arresting music video.
Singer Judah Dadone explains how bandmate Chuck Criss’ abstract lyrics were what drove the elemental and imaginative premise, complete with stunning spark and flame effects that exquisitely morph and blend with splashing water and bubble imagery. The main portions of the video were expertly filmed with one shot and transitioned with trick cuts between the story and the band’s performance amidst a sea of dancing LED light panels.
Green Label Sound offers a free download of the single as well as a great little sneak peak into the video’s creation, codirected by Chunwoo Kae and Ryan Demler of Neue Films.
