Governors Ball doesn’t really feel like a festival. Maybe it’s the fact that none of the sets overlap, something that has it’s merits and issues, but most likely it’s the fact that for many of us, we go home at the end of the night. There’s no camping, no wild [READ ON]

Governors Ball doesn’t really feel like a festival. Maybe it’s the fact that none of the sets overlap, something that has it’s merits and issues, but most likely it’s the fact that for many of us, we go home at the end of the night. There’s no camping, no wild late-night partying (of course, they did have some wild after parties at Brooklyn Bowl), there’s your bed at the end of the [READ ON]

IN CONVERSATION WITH MATTHEW HINES OF THE EASTERN SEA [INTERVIEW]

Photo from: Food Republic

Matthew Philip Hines describes Austin, Texas as “a kind of velvet coffin”. A local musician who is no stranger to philosophy, classic literature and analysis of multi-modal communication (that’s right), his music is reflective of the complexities in his mind.

“Part of living in Austin and being a musician is trying to overcome this kind of automatic apathy,” he shares, “There’s just so much music [READ ON]

PRETEEN ARE GRITTY AND MYSTERIOUS [FREE MP3]

San Francisco’s PreTeen are self-described as “four nice young men who, stocked with an armory of faded campfire melodies and questionable intentions, only want to help you be who you want to be.” They have a fairly mysterious web presence, so we’ll have to take their word for it! Though the band may be shrouded in mystery, one thing is certain, their music is filled with the lo-fi (sometimes melancholy) vocals, twangy, reverb [READ ON]

HOT CHIP’S IN OUR HEADS

329 days ago by Mal Foster

In Our Heads sees Hot Chip (@hot_chip), dance music’s hippest squares, return once again with a new album of blended sounds and styles. This time around, though, there’s a lot more homage to vintage house music and retro pop.

I dont know about you, but for me, Hot Chip have always been a very intriguing, enigmatic act perched firmly on the fringe. Commercially, they do pretty well, but I would never call them a chart success, and their music is certainly left-field and rife with unorthodox ideas. There’s no denying, however, that they know how [READ ON]

RIOUX TO RELEASE PROMISING EP NEXT MONTH [FREE MP3]

Find The Reason – Rioux feat. Thurmon Green

Brooklyn based producer Rioux (@riouxsounds) (pronounced ree-yoo) is pretty much a musical genius.  Although tracks on his Soundcloud are tagged as electronic, there are definitely strong hints of psychedelia and minimalism. Regardless, covering all ends of the electronic spectrum, Rioux has created music appropriate to both zone out or get down to. Zen at times, his songs can quickly turn into something more elaborate [READ ON]
