Nathan Williams loves to remind people that he can’t be stopped. He taunted “You’re never gonna stop me” in the title track from last year’s excellent King of the Beach LP and repeats the phrase in his newest song “I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl.” We get it, Wavves (@wavveswavves) isn’t going away. I have no problem with this. [READ ON]

SEA OF BEES’ GNOMES EP

656 days ago by Madeline Daigle

sob ep cover 550x548 SEA OF BEES GNOMES EP

Julie Ann Bee’s voice is arresting. It’s not the kind that allows one to sit idly by as it waifs in the background. It demands attention. It’s the kind that can turn a ubiquitous song like U2’s “With Or Without You” into a song that feels unfamiliar– something that takes on a whole new meaning.

This is exactly what Julie, more commonly known as Jules, does on Sea of Bees’ (@seaofbees) Gnomes EP. Although the EP only features one original song, along with a remix and two covers, each [READ ON]

NEW YORK’S DEAR LIONS RELEASE POWERFUL NEW EP

Dear Lions 550x346 NEW YORKS DEAR LIONS RELEASE POWERFUL NEW EP

We first wrote about Ricky Lewis as part of Brooklyn band The Wools, who caught our attention with their incredible guitar tones, confident vocals, and throwback style. Since that time, though, he’s released an EP through a different band, Dear Lions (@dearlions). While both projects bear striking similarities, particularly in the melodies and vocals provided by Lewis, Lions has a decidedly warmer sound. The EP, currently on sale through their bandcamp page, is a striking mixture of songs that ranges from forceful hush to buoyant melody, capturing [READ ON]

JAY-Z AND KANYE WEST’S WATCH THE THRONE

658 days ago by Hannah Ylan

watch the throne cover JAY Z AND KANYE WESTS WATCH THE THRONE

Watch the Throne is an album best turned up to 11. It features more samples, hooks, guests, swagger and bombast then any releases in recent memory — it’s pure and glorious excess. Of course, what else is to be expected from the minds of Jay-Z (@jayz) and Kanye West (@kanyewest).

Watch the Throne is 12 tracks of solid gold hip hop bursting with hook after hook and rhyme after rhyme. While Jay-Z adds his lyrical brilliance to the record, West’s DNA [READ ON]

PEPPER RABBIT’S RED VELVET SNOWBALL

Pepper Rabbit Red Velvet Snow Ball PEPPER RABBITS RED VELVET SNOWBALL

Lush instrumentation and psychedelia have lately fallen out of favor in the LA music scene, giving way to the throwback beach pop that is currently infecting the blogosphere (we can’t really say airwaves anymore, can we). Hopefully Pepper Rabbit’s masterful sophomore album will bring lushness back into fashion.

Red Velvet Snowballs is truly a dense, beautiful record submerged in swirling soundscapes. In fact, I find it difficult to believe that its rich textures are the work [READ ON]

For the past month and a half I’ve been working as a music coordinator on a brand new MTV scripted series entitled “I Just Want My Pants Back”.  This job entails, among other things, helping select and license the music found in the show.  Even more, I’m lucky enough to be working directly with music supervisor, Nic Harcourt.  Tonight at 11PM EST, right after the VMAs on MTV, you can catch the pilot episode of the show and spot a few bands we’ve featured here on the site in the past.

“I Just Want My Pants Back” is about four [READ ON]
