The last few weeks of my life have been almost entirely consumed by the NBA’s free agency. I have lost sleep, lost friends, picked up smoking, picked up drinking (…more), yelled at my mother, yelled at my boss, got yelled at by my boss, and nearly ended my life (accidentally). All over speculation and hype, and my naïve willingness to believe anyone with a blog that would say “LeBron is coming to CHICAGO!”. [READ ON]

VILLAGERS ARE NO JOKE
Becoming a Jackal – VillagersBecoming a Jackal – Villagers (Buy)
After a feirce iTunes session, I arise victorious. I’ve found four great new bands for accross the globe. First was Neighbors, featured earlier today. Next? Villagers of Dublin, Ireland. [READ ON]

Hooligans – NeighborsHooligans – Neighbors (Buy)

SHINOBI NINJA EP RELEASED
There aren’t very many musicians releasing their music in as creative of a manner as New York band, Shinobi Ninja. Their most recent EP, The Video Game EP, was released today via an NES cartridge (CD within), immediate MP3 download, as well as an iPhone app. Now if that’s not outdoing the very best, what is? TOKYO POLICE CLUB’S RELEASE NEW LP, CHAMP
First and foremost, Tokyo Police Club is not at all what the name suggests. One may expect neon nightsticks bludgeoning me as exotic sushi rolls were shoved down my throat; instead, I came across heart-encrusted inflatable baseball bats merely poking me while California rolls were the only things sliming their way down my esophagus. Originally from that mystical and beautiful land that is Canada, this band genuinely delivers [READ ON]

GREAT ELK’S SELF-TITLED DEBUT EP
Great Elk’s self-titled debut EP, which was released June 22, is an amazing combination of haunting melodies that are folksy enough to resonate with you after listening to the EP. Vibrations is a great single that shows vocalist Paul Basile’s lonesome persona that creates a weary but soothing world through his music. Bow Echo is a great track for summer as the constant beauty of the instruments makes way for a comforting sound. [READ ON]
BRAIDS SAYS SOME HILARIOUS SHIT TO US [INTERVIEW]
Let me start off by saying that BRAIDS is an amazing group of people. In addition to being fantastic musicians, they’re, well, fun. They like each other. They like playing with each other. And the effect of unity in their music is obvious. They may be a young group, but the depth and message of their songs screams of life experiences beyond their years. When I caught their most recent New York show, I couldn’t help but notice how completely they won over the crowd. Not surprising given that their songs incorporate movement and effects that make each one unique and exciting. [READ ON]
MAPS & ATLASES’ PERCH PATCHWORK
The debut LP for Maps & Atlases has arrived. Titled Perch Patchwork, this album is as deliberately poetic as its title suggests. The first thing that struck me was how beautifully these songs blend into each other. [READ ON]
