DR. DOG’S SHAME, SHAME

shame1 DR. DOGS SHAME, SHAME

Shame, Shame by Dr. Dog is the band’s 6th full-length record, and their first since the summer of 2008. Dr. Dog is not your typical indie rock band in the sense that they do not a lot of things that will blow your mind with originality. By the same token, they have created such good music for the better part of a decade, that they have blossomed from a small band.  Formerly only known for their Philadelphia-centric roots, they became an opening band on national tours in 2006 and 2007, and are currently on a national tour which will be going on this spring.  That will be followed by a European tour in late May. They’ll also be at Bonnaroo in mid-June.

Those who like contemporary indie rock, influenced by classic rock of the late 1960s and early 1970s, will really like the sound of Shame, Shame. Their sound is very similar to that of Pavement’s in the sense [READ ON]

MIA BORN FREE VIDEO NSFW

1147 days ago by Justin Howard

YEAH HOLY SHIT, I TAKE IT BACK, MIA IS BRILL AND DELIVERS AS ALWAYS! A video for Born Free is streaming from her website. I was really surprised by the seemingly one-off punk track, so I’m super stoked that she’s followed it up with this INCREDIBLE music video.  Everything makes sense now — MIA is in fact a genius. Video is NSFW because there’s lots of violence and a little bit a nudity.  I personally say “fuck that!”  Watch it wherever you want because and it just chills me right to the bone. [READ ON]

JAKOB DYLAN’S WOMEN & COUNTRY

1147 days ago by Amanda Dallas

Women Country JAKOB DYLANS WOMEN & COUNTRY

For those who don’t know (even though it’s obvious just by looking at pictures of both of them), Jakob Dylan is Bob Dylan’s son. Also, for those who don’t know, Jakob Dylan was (is?) the lead singer of the hit 90s band The Wallflowers, a band that I really don’t mind so much.

I don’t love them, I don’t hate them, I just kind of appreciate them sometimes (okay, mostly just three songs off of their most popular album, 1996’s Bringing Down the Horse). So maybe [READ ON]

B.O.B’S THE ADVENTURES OF BOBBY RAY

bob adventures of bobby ray cover1 B.O.BS THE ADVENTURES OF BOBBY RAY

If you haven’t heard of B.o.B (aka Bobby Ray Simmons) yet, you must be living in a cave. His infectious first single, Nothing On You, featuring Bruno Mars, just went platinum after selling over a million copies. I love this song. You love this song. Your mom loves this song. That being said, the rest of the album isn’t as insanely catchy; however, it’s a great mix of pop, soul, and hip hop reminiscent of Gym Class Heroes and Outkast. [READ ON]

HOT CHIP PLAYED TERMINAL 5

The other night I went to see Hot Chip at Terminal 5 and it was beyond amazing. They played a really solid selection of old favorites and new singles with a few fun mixes thrown in.  I made friends with this chill group of people next to me, and I have these vivid memories of shouting the lyrics to One Life Stand and One Pure Thought.  My favorite song of the night was by far their cover of Shakira’s She Wolf.

SICK NIKE AD

1148 days ago by Beeotch

So this is one of the coolest ad’s I’ve ever seen, probably because it involves sneakers, dj-ing, and really cool looking Asian men.  The combo together is actually overwhelming, and I spent the whole 2 minutes (it’s long and worth it) blushing like a 13 year old.  I’m going to let the video speak for itself, simply because it’s that cool and creative and creating quite the little buzz in Japan. LONG BOARDING AND THE SEASON

1149 days ago by Beeotch

You know how there are just some songs that send you back to a certain specific moment in your life? Well the The DoDo’s have a many spots on my imaginary freshman year of college mixtape.  The Season in particular happens to be one of my favorite folky songs EVER up their with Grizzly Bear’s The Knife and Fleet Foxes’s White Winter Hymnal. So when those first few finger plucked notes of this psy-folksy ballad start to play PLUS a fade in on a gorgeous low angle shot of this guy longboarding across a bridge, I was hooked. [READ ON]
